Sam’s 2011 Macbook Pro had the original 2.5″ SATA hard disk. We changed it to a Samsung 840 EVO that is the same form-factor but offers a speed that is vastly superior.
What upgrades can a Macbook receive?
The model of Macbook you own dictates the type of upgrades we can offer you.
SSD and RAM (memory) upgrades are the most common requests. SSD replacements are very popular and can completely transform your Macbook. We can upgrade almost all SSDs. We offer RAM upgrades for systems where the existing RAM is not soldered to the logic board.
Trackpad and screen/display upgrades are also possible on several Macbooks, but we will always confirm what is available if you send us an upgrade inquiry through our contact form.
People don’t typically view keyboards as an upgrade. Surprisingly, a new keyboard can make a significant difference to a MacBook. This is especially the case in older models where the key mechanism becomes stiff.
We can upgrade the fans and speakers in most Macbook models.
Is it possible to upgrade the logic board or graphics?
Upgrading the graphics card (GPU) in almost all MacBooks is not possible because they are an integral part of the logic board. We do not offer this upgrade, even in the rare instances where it can be done.
However, and this comes as a surprise to many, you can upgrade an entire logic board on some Macbook models, giving you a completely new CPU, GPU and other components with improved power. Cost versus additional capability is the obvious factor with this type of upgrade, but if you don’t need a huge upgrade or the expense of a new Macbook then it might be worth investigating with us.

Our advice on Macbook upgrades is that SSD and RAM upgrades are almost always worthwhile. Customers always express amazement at the speed difference they make. Macbook memory management is remarkably efficient, but a RAM upgrade can deliver an instant and noticeable speed improvement or prevent apps/software crashing if you run applications that stress your Macbook more than most.

What if my Macbook Pro hard disk or SSD can’t be upgraded?
There are instances where a Macbook Pro can’t take an upgraded internal SSD. Models affected are from 2016-2022 but please check with us for confirmation.
However, because of the Thunderbolt ports on this model of Macbook Pro, it is entirely feasible for us to configure an external SSD as your boot drive, thereby giving you a potentially faster Macbook Pro and additional storage capacity.
If your Macbook pro pre-dates 2016, there are a greater number of upgrade options available to you.
Can Macbook Air SSD or RAM be upgraded?
From 2018 on, Apple have soldered the SSD directly to the logic board of the Macbook Air, making an SSD upgrade impossible.
We can offer upgrades to the SSD on the following Macbook Air models:
Macbook Air 11″ & 13″ (Mid-2013 to 2017)
Macbook Air 11″ & 13″ (Mid 2012)
Macbook Air 11″ & 13″ (Late 2010 – Mid 2011)
We cannot upgrade the RAM on any MacBook Air.
Is it possible to upgrade MacBook speakers?
The short answer to this is no. However, we can replace any blown or failed speakers on your Macbook Pro or Air.
One of the main reasons speaker upgrades aren’t available is that Macbook buyers that have greater audio quality demands often purchase external speakers, such as those sold by JBL.
The audio quality on later MacBook models has improved dramatically. However, if you have a problem with your MacBook speakers, please get in touch.
